What Happens in a Laughter Workshop?

Laughter sessions start with gentle warm-up techniques which include stretching, chanting, clapping and body movement. These help break down inhibitions and develop feelings of childlike playfulness. Breathing exercises are used to prepare the lungs for laughter, followed by a series of ‘laughter exercises’ that combine the method of acting and visualization techniques with playfulness. These exercises, when combined with the strong social dynamics of group behavior, lead to prolonged, hearty, and unconditional laughter. Laughter exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises. Scientifically it has been proven that twenty minutes of laughter is sufficient to develop full physiological benefits.

 What is Laughter Exercise?

Laughter Exercise is a unique concept where anyone can laugh for no reason without relying on humor, jokes or comedy.

2.    We initiate laughter as an exercise in a group, but with eye contact and childlike playfulness, it soon turns into real and contagious laughter.

3.    The reason we call it Laughter Exercise is because it combines laughter exercises with deep breathing. This brings more oxygen to the body and the brain which makes one feel more energetic and healthy.

4.    The concept of Laughter Exercise is based on a scientific fact that the body cannot differentiate between fake and real laughter if done with willingness--you get the same health benefits either way.

5.    It was started by a medical doctor in 1995 and is fast sweeping the world.  Today there are thousands of laughter clubs in more than 65 countries.
